End up Summer Farm Update!

When I first wrote end of summer on the blog title I had to look at my calendar. How can it be that my summer has ended?!! This upcoming weekend is my last wedding-free weekend until mid October. Brennan and I, along with some of our awesome friends, have been feverishly working on our house. As I may have mentioned before, the reason we bought such a large piece of land is so that I can keep my horse at my house vs paying to keep him boarded elsewhere. It's always been a dream of mine, and Brennan's, to live on a farm and we are just so ready to move into this place! I wanted to update y'all with some new pictures of the progress so here ya go!

Driving up to my house is rather odd, it's extremely wooded until you make this one 90 degree turn and it completely opens up and you see this!

We now have windows, doors, and siding! Yippe!!

A lot of front porch sittin' will be done here!By far the hardest project we've been working on is the fence. We are doing a three board oak fence, around about 7 acres. It has taken us forever just to get about 75% of  the post in. I'm praying we are able to finish it all by the time we move into the house! I am so grateful for the friends that have spent countless hours digging holes and setting poles. We owe you all more than you can imagine!!

One thing that surprise people is the inside is still completely unfinished. Other than framing and electrical wire not much is in there. They framed out the fireplace this week which gets me sooo excited to spend our winter nights curled up in front of it watching movies :)

The blog is going to get much more wedding oriented in the next week so just bare with us!

Till next time, happy planning! Cheers!!

Farm update!!

So I'm not going to lie. I get super giddy when people tell me they read my blog. I love being able to share the "behinds the scenes" to my everyday life, which is going about 110 miles an hour right now! So much has happened in the past few weeks. As many of you know, I was hit by a drunk driver over Memorial Day weekend. After my car being in the shop for three weeks they finally decided to total it and the new car hunt began. Getting a new car was the LAST thing on our minds with the expenses of building a house. Brennan and I bit the bullet and went out over the July 4th weekend and got ourselves a Toyota Highlander. With two big dogs, hauling wedding stuff and living a mile down a gravel road we figured a small SUV would be the best fit for our lifestyle.

Speaking of the house...it's coming together so freakin' fast! It's crazy that only a month ago nothing was there. Now we can actually walk through the main level and feel the size of the rooms. Two weeks ago they installed the foundation and started framing. The framing went up SOOOOOOOOOOO fast. It seriously seemed like I blinked and another room was completed. The pictures below are from just this past weekend. Oh look, it's my new car in front of the garage! Brennan was out at the property last night and low and behold we have a second level (and a lot of grass/hay that needs to be cut...)!!!!! We also bought a tractor so we don't have to keep stealing borrowing our neighbors. I'm pretty sure the day Brennan got it supersedes our wedding day (or at least to him it does!)

We love just driving out to the lot and hanging out with our neighbors. They are SO nice. They got chickens and guineas about two months ago and I love going over and playing with them. How cute are the babies?! We are planning to get some guineas when we move in to control the ticks and other bugs out there.

This weekend we get to go pick out our kitchen cabinets. We are also popping down to Madison to pick up fence post to start prepping for the horse and donkey! Yup, Brennan's one farm animal request is a miniature donkey. He's already named "said donkey" Carl. He's wanted one for a long as I can remember. Such a weirdo!

I'll be sure to do another blog post about the house later this month!

Till next time, happy planning! Cheers!!

PS- Sorry for the bad iPhone pictures!

It's Finally Happening...!!!

As most of you know, I've been talking about building or buying a farm for what seems like forever. The ball finally started rolling when we sold our house on New Year's Eve last year. Our original plans were to find a house with enough land for horses and renovate it just like we had done with our old house. All the houses we saw were problematic. Either they were a million miles away from my husband's work (and civilization), were on too small of a lot or simply needed too much work on the inside. One literally had 3 feet of water in the basement...hello indoor swimming pool!!! That is when we started toying with the idea to build. We had no idea what it would cost, but after about ten too many phone calls with the bank (thanks for your patience Rob!) we learned we could make it work!! After sending my husband links to a billion "perfect" lots that ended up horrendous, we ended up stumbling upon this one while we were at a friend's house nearby. As soon as we pulled up we knew...THIS IS IT!!!

This is what the lot looked like when we first saw it this winter. We loved the unobstructed views and that you could see the mountains! The gentle rolling hills will be perfect for our farm animals too. It took us about 4-5 months to get all the financing in place. Building a home takes a lot more work than just buying a home.

This is what the lot looks like now, but the grass is even taller. Seriously like 4 ft+ tall. It was being used as a hay field and we are waiting for the farmer to come and cut it one last time before we turn the front into a big pasture. The angle the picture was taken would be our view from the front porch. to.die.for. I can't wait to sit on the porch with my glass of wine and watch the horse(s) graze in the field.

Our dogs even love it too!!

Lastly, here is sneak peek of what the house will look like. We've made a few changes, but the overall feel is still the same. The building permit should be accepted any day now!! Can't wait to be in this new house. Stay tuned for some interior design posts as we figure out what we are doing with the insides!

Till next time, happy planning! Cheers!!
